Focus on the needs of children and parents

A total of seven North Rhine-Westphalian municipalities and districts that applied for the Landespreis für familienfreundliche Kommunen 2024 fall into the category of large cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. This award was presented for the first time by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The district of Düren and the city of Hamm in particular impressed the jury with their offers and were named "Family-friendly municipality 2024" in the large city category.

We live diversity

True to the motto of the competition - "We live diversity" - we present here how diverse and colorful North Rhine-Westphalian cities support families.

The award-winning municipalities

A total of 34 municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia took part in the Landespreis "Familienkommune 2024 - Wir leben Vielfalt" with applications, some of which were very elaborate and ran to several hundred pages. Six of them were honored as "Family Municipality 2024" and received prize money of 10,000 euros each. The award winners are the cities of Gladbeck, Hamm and Brühl, the district of Düren with its 15 towns belonging to the district and the municipalities of Windeck and Dörentrup.
