Laws on child day care
Reconciliation cannot succeed without child daycare
Without good childcare, there can be no work-life balance. Parents are therefore entitled to a childcare place for children from the age of one. Below you will find an overview of the legal provisions.
Child daycare is part of public welfare. This means that both the federal government and the federal states have the right to legislate in the federal system. The federal government sets the overarching goals and standards. The federal states regulate implementation at local authority level.
Social Code VIII: The Child and Youth Welfare Act (KJHG)
Here, the federal government has stipulated that children from the age of one are entitled to support in daycare facilities and in child daycare, that certain quality standards apply and that the facilities must receive appropriate financial support.
The Child Education Act (KiBiz) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia
The KiBiz is the daycare law for the state of NRW. Among other things, it regulates how the need for childcare is to be determined, which forms of childcare should be available, which subsidies the facilities receive, who is allowed to work in childcare and under what conditions, and which quality standards apply.
