A vacation allows you to get away from everyday routines and obligations and experience new things with the whole family. Such time out and shared experiences are particularly important for parents and children.
But it is not easy for all families to finance a vacation. The non-profit family holiday centers in North Rhine-Westphalia and other federal states have many attractive destinations in their program that take into account the needs and possibilities of families.

Numerous federal states subsidize family recreation measures from their federal state. North Rhine-Westphalia also supports family vacations in family holiday resorts. However, families can also contact one of the facilities nationwide independently of this.

In the houses, families can recharge their batteries and relax according to their own needs. Family recreation offers opportunities to meet other families, exchange ideas and enjoy a change of scenery. All houses impress with their child- and family-friendly atmosphere in a quiet location.

The state promotes family vacations for families from North Rhine-Westphalia with low incomes, in particular single parents and large families, as well as families with children in need of care or at least one family member with a disability.

Funding for family vacations for low-income families is based on the family income limit in accordance with Section 53 of the German Fiscal Code. As a rule, families who are in receipt of benefits, entitled to participation or in receipt of housing benefit, families who have had to accept a loss of income due to short-time working and families in which one family member has a severe disability of at least 50% are eligible. A further requirement is that you have not taken part in the family vacation in the last year.

The responsible travel service of Diakonie Ruhr-Hellweg e. V. will be happy to help you determine or calculate whether funding is possible.

The program offers a family vacation with three to seven overnight stays in a family holiday resort in North Rhine-Westphalia or nationwide or a youth hostel suitable for families in North Rhine-Westphalia. Full board and various family-friendly offers are included for participating families.

The personal contribution is 50 euros per adult and 25 euros per child. Below a certain income limit, the personal contribution is waived. Families are responsible for the pocket money required on site.
