Financing school education
Financing school education: Tips and state aid
For some training professions, you still have to go to school. For example, if you want to become a geriatric nurse or educator, graphic designer or foreign language correspondent, you can complete the school-based training at a vocational college or technical college. Unlike training courses in the dual system, however, in many cases vocational students do not receive a salary. Some private training providers even charge admission fees and tuition fees. Nevertheless, no one has to miss out on their dream job. You can find out how school-based training can be financed here.
How can the training be financed?
Parents can deduct school fees from their taxes
Parents whose children attend a generally recognized school or alternative school can claim 30 percent of the costs as "special expenses", up to a maximum of 5,000 euros per child per year.School fees include all amounts that parents regularly pay to the school for their child's education and to cover school costs. This does not include accommodation, childcare and catering costs. These costs must be deducted from the school fees paid. Costs for school books, tutoring facilities or language courses are also not deductible.
Good to know: Training in the healthcare sector is free of charge in NRW!
For healthcare professions such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, pharmaceutical-technical assistance and medical-technical assistance, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has abolished school fees in 2021.School-based training is free of charge for these professions.
