All symptoms of pregnancy are triggered by fertilization and the release of different hormones. Most complaints are completely normal and need not worry you further. However, you should be especially attentive to your body or abdomen during this time. If there are any abnormalities or if you feel unsure, be sure to talk to your gynecologist or a midwife.
How does a pregnancy test work?
You can get a pregnancy test without a prescription at the pharmacy or drugstore. It is easy to perform at home. Hold the test stick under the urine stream as described in the package insert or catch some urine in a cup and dip the test into it. You can read the result in the viewing window after just a few minutes.
The test reacts to the pregnancy hormone hCG in the urine of the pregnant woman. The hCG hormone rises sharply after conception. It can be detected in urine as early as day 10 after fertilization of the egg.
If the test comes back negative, you are probably not pregnant. However, the hCG level may not have been high enough. Therefore, to be on the safe side, you should do the test again a few days later.
