Three questions for Thomas Lesser from GREEN IT
"Only enthusiastic employees inspire customers"
Measures to improve work-life balance are firmly anchored in the Dortmund IT service provider's corporate policy. In this interview, Managing Director Thomas Lesser explains exactly what these measures look like in day-to-day business and how they affect employee satisfaction.
Why is your company committed to reconciling work and family life?
Our colleagues generally spend more time at work than at home with their families. It is therefore very important to us that we offer everyone the opportunity to create an individual balance between work and private life. This creates satisfaction, enthusiasm and loyalty. Which in turn is important for us as an employer, because only enthusiastic employees inspire customers.
What measures have you taken to achieve this and what experiences have you had with them?
We offer everyone at our company the opportunity to determine their own working hours, e.g. in the form of a part-time working model. There are also home office options.
We also support families with childcare. We pay the kindergarten fees and have set up play corners in the office. We always invite our employees' families to all company events. These include weekly soccer matches, participation in company runs and the Green IT summer camp.
During parental leave, we stay in close contact with our employees to make it easier for them to return to work. We also encourage participation in further training measures and always keep mothers and fathers up to date with what is happening in the company if they so wish.
By the way, we have also found that the ability to bring family dogs to work has become an important competitive advantage. That's why we now have three happy dogs at our company, who are always a source of amusement and good humor.
What tips do you have for other entrepreneurs who want to get more involved in this topic?
We can only recommend seeking an open and honest exchange with employees. What do they want in order to achieve a good work-life balance? Our team has given us valuable input here and we have implemented this together with them to the best of our ability.
Where can we find help and advice?
The corporate network "Success Factor Family" offers you the opportunity to exchange ideas with other companies and experts. Membership is free of charge and offers lots of practical information and support for implementation in your company.
