Simply explained

After you have concluded a care contract with a child day care person or child day care facility, the amount of your parental contribution is determined by the respective local provider of public youth welfare (counties, independent cities, cities belonging to counties with their own youth welfare office), i.e. the youth welfare office.

This amount can vary depending on the municipality and city. The amount and scale of parental contributions for daycare facilities and for daycare should correspond to each other. If the youth welfare office levies parental contributions, it must provide for a social scale in accordance with the provisions of the Child Education Act and take into account the economic capacity of the parents and the time of care (Section 51 (4) KiBiz).

Please submit all necessary documents about the benefits you receive to your responsible youth welfare office or municipality.

For the care of your child, the Youth Welfare Office sets a monthly contribution, unless the use is non-contributory. The amount of the parental contribution is usually based on the amount of care your child receives and your income. If necessary, a waiver of the parental contribution is also possible.

This is still important

  • If you receive unemployment benefit II or social welfare, social assistance, housing benefit, asylum benefits or child supplement, you will be exempt from parental contributions for the months of receipt of these benefits.
  • .
  • Special arrangements for early enrollment or children who are deferred from enrollment do not exist.
  • In addition to the parental contributions, the sponsor of the child day care facility and the child day care provider may charge an appropriate fee for meals.
  • The contribution is waived if you can not be expected to bear the burden (§ 90 SGB VIII). This is only possible in certain individual cases and by separate application.
  • The use of offers in day care centers or day care by children who will have reached the age of four by September 30, from the beginning of the kindergarten year beginning in the same calendar year until school enrollment is free of charge (§ 50 KiBiz).
  • In some municipalities and cities, sibling reductions are applied in the calculation of the parental contribution.
  • .
  • The last two years of kindergarten before school enrollment are usually free of charge (§ 50 paragraph 1 KiBiz). Children who have reached the age of four by September 30 are exempt from contributions from the beginning of the kindergarten year beginning in the same calendar year until school enrollment. The kindergarten year always begins on August 1 of a year.
